This book is a masterwork.

The characters are stunning in their realism, and the amount of research that must have gone into the many settings and situations the characters encounter is incredible. The mystery is woven so tightly that when the big reveal happened, I was dumbfounded. Many times I stopped, flipped back a few pages, and muttered, ‘I’m so confused,’ before pressing on to get the full answer. This plot is seamless and had me totally sucked in for days, and boy, was the payoff ever worth it.

There were points when I thought the author was going off track or that the scene I was reading couldn’t possibly be necessary, but he proved me wrong every time. Don’t pass this book up – you won’t regret it.

wonderfully crafted, and well written

I just don’t know how to even review this book, with all its interwoven complex plots and subplots I’m too afraid I’ll inadvertently give something away. This is a huge, sweeping novel, wonderfully crafted, and well written; the sort that pulls you in and you keep checking to reassure yourself that there’s still plenty left. I loved the characters, I cared about them, I miss them now that I’ve finished the novel. I certainly did not anticipate loving this work– I do not play chess, know very little about the Vietnam era, have never studied yoga, I don’t even have brothers. I plan to let this rest a bit, then reread now that I know the secrets. I can’t remember the last book I finished that I wanted to read again, a very rare thing for me.

I enjoyed this book from the very beginning

I had some misgivings when I saw the length of this book, especially considering it was a new Author, for me I need not have worried, I enjoyed this book from the very beginning. In my opinion well written, it never failed to hold my attention, in fact the longer I read the shorter the book seemed to get. The more I read the greater the scope, depth and interesting it became. This book left me with a lot to think about and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves. This is an excellent first novel and I look forward, hopefully, to the second. Best book I’ve read in ages!

I had some misgivings when I saw the length of this book, especially considering it was a new Author, for me I need not have worried, I enjoyed this I had the same initial reaction as an earlier reviewer about the death of the dog — I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the book at that point. Fortunately I kept reading, because this is an engrossing book that keeps you fascinated and engaged by the characters. It is well written and well edited, something sadly lacking in many of the low cost Kindle books I’ve read recently. I didn’t want it to end, I wanted to know what happened to the characters afterwards. It just got better and better as the story moved along. Hope the author writes more!
